What is the External Academic Advisory Committee?
The External Academic Advisory Committee (EAAC) is the College’s key source of independent advice regarding the planning
and review of new and current academic programs.
Vision
The External Academic Advisory Committee has the principal responsibility to
encourage the highest standards in teaching, scholarship and research and to
safeguard the academic freedom of the College. The Academic Committee is also
responsible for monitoring the development of all academic activities of the
College, reviewing policies, guidelines and procedures in relation to academic
matters and providing advice on the quality of teaching, scholarship and
research at Tabor College NSW.
The EAAC reports to the Faculty Executive through the Principal and provides
academic advice on all academic matters, including academic priorities and
policies of the College, the maintenance of academic standards and any
academic matters it considers to be of strategic importance. Specifically, the
EAAC recommends the approval of new courses and changes to existing courses;
provides advice on policy regarding programs of study and assessment; and
makes recommendations on the terms and conditions of awards, scholarships and
prizes.
Membership
The
External Academic Advisory Committee to comprise ten members, with one occasional member as required. The
majority (minimum of five) to be external to the College.

Advisory functions
The
External Academic Advisory Committee will
provide advice to the Board of Management and Faculty Executive in regard
to:
Current national and global developments and trends which are impacting on the public expectations of the churches and Christian organizations and communities for whom the College provides education and programs.
Development and change in higher education policy and practices relevant to the conduct of the College’s academic programs.
The suitability of program quality in terms of professional utility and aim, scope and depth of content, and parity of standards in relation to other providers.
Academic matters related to teaching, including academic priorities and policies.
Academic matters related to the vision and mission of Tabor College NSW.
Policies in regard to academic standing, deployment and development of teaching staff.
Maintenance of academic standards.
Specific Tasks
Review and approve new academic courses.
Determine policy and requirements for the award of degrees, diplomas, certificates in the context of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Recommend policies, guidelines and procedures in relation to academic matters.
Request reports from the Faculty Executive for consideration and action as required.
Consider and take action as required on reports or academic submissions from Academic Stream Heads.
Provide regular meeting reports to Faculty Executive.
Provide a means of communication in academic matters between the Faculty Executive, teaching staff, the broader church community, alumni and the wider Higher Education community.
Consider reports, exercise powers and perform other functions as requested by the Faculty Executive.
