| DIPLOMA IN MINISTRY (Children's Ministry) |
Accredited course code 40362SA
This flexible course provides excellent preparation for pastoral work,
assistant/associate ministry positions in church and parachurch settings, and
ministry roles in the wider Christian community. After developing a foundation
of biblical studies and theology, students focus on applying these principles in
the work of children’s ministry. They also gain practical experience through a
field education placement. The course comprises modules to the value of 80 credit points. In the above course outline,
credit point weightings are shown in parentheses. All modules are taken at Tabor College's level 2. A full-time student takes modules to the value of 20 credit points in one semester. Module staging is indicated by the coding system: "100" modules have no prerequisites and are
foundational, "200" modules build on "100" modules, and "300" modules build on both "100" and "200" modules. Elective modules will normally be selected from those listed above, however, with the prior
approval of the Course Coordinator, they may be selected from another accredited course at the
appropriate level, provided that they are relevant to Christian ministry. The elective choices in the Diploma in Ministry allow for considerable customisation. This customisation
may take place to the extent that it results in one of the specific specialised diplomas,
in this case, Diploma in Ministry (Children's Ministry) where at least 24 elective credit points
are taken from the Children's Ministry modules. Students must not include more than 48 credit points in "100" modules. Module prerequisites should be noted in making module selections. Some module combinations (in the standard Diploma of
Ministry) will not be permitted because of an overlap in content. This is
explained in the Module Summaries. Not all modules will necessarily be offered every year. Some modules that are not available
on campus will be available by distance education through Tabor College Adelaide. Students are
advised to check with the College for details of on campus and distance education options. A student who completes 40 credit points in appropriate modules may exit with a Certificate
IV in Ministry. A student who completes 20 credit points in appropriate modules may exit with a
Certificate III in Ministry. A student who completed 10 credit points in appropriate modules may
exit with a Certificate I in Ministry Studies. (See separate course outlines.) All study pathways must be approved by the Course Coordinator. General Learning Outcomes (Top) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the biblical concepts underlying each of the modules
completed; answer questions and solve problems related to Christian life and doctrine and to many spiritual,
personal and relational issues related to life and ministry in church and parachurch settings; apply practical skills in Christian teaching, preaching, leadership and pastoral situations; collect, analyse, organise, summarise and evaluate information on a broad range of topics from a
wide range of sources on theological and ministry issues; make appropriate choices by applying a knowledge and understanding of the Bible to situations in
daily life; help others to understand the content of the Bible, including major doctrines, and to apply biblical
principles in their daily lives; and exercise self-discipline in study and express knowledge, understanding and suggested applications
in a clear, coherent, well-reasoned manner. Specific Learning Outcomes (Top)
